How far are you guys getting on a tank of fuel on a stock bike? How far on a tank of fuel after a flash? Concerned about range...not mileage.

145ish is the max I've pushed it. Just fill up at 1/4 tank.
BTW, I get better gas mileage when I keep the RPMs above 6K cruising.

Yesterday I went on the flashing light/fuel counter at 126 miles which is pretty avg for me, that means I have 1 gallon in the tank (36 miles) before rolling to a stop. So the max range is about 160 miles tops, a lot less if you really beat on it. This bike will never make it as a sports tourer. The owner of the Yamaha dealer asked me about this yesterday, he likes to ride 2,500 miles or so on a trip and was wondering about range.....we agree this wasn't going to work for him.

After the flash, this past weekend I had 130mi and fueled with 4.2gal (cutting it close!). That was after taking it easy and drafting a truck for 20mi to get to a station.
Pre-flash I could easily get 140mi out of it and filled up with around 4gal.

post flash, I'm getting about 120 to 125 before I need to refill, but it's still only about 3.7 or 3.8 to fill up. really start getting nervous when the odo ("Trip F") starts counting up from zero, because I'm uncertain how far I can go...
regards, Tony

Is there a legitimate reason why the fuel economy on these is low? I have had three different generation R1's, 2004, 2008, and 2012, and all have given me 40-42MPG(US). My first tank of fuel with the bar flashing at 90 miles is kind of sad.

I'm usually getting around 100 miles before the low fuel light comes on... And I flog my girl regularly. I agree with those who would like to see more range but I've been riding R1's for 14 years an am accustomed to only getting 120 max...

. . . The owner of the Yamaha dealer asked me about this yesterday, he likes to ride 2,500 miles or so on a trip and was wondering about range.....we agree this wasn't going to work for him. Tell the YD there's these little green paper-like things called "cash". Then advise him to take a lot of it with him and then there's no limit in mileage range, provided the YD knows how to locate a very convenient little place called a "gas station".

140 miles, 120 miles. Cheers, MrHix MrHix, last I checked mileage p/g and range are fairly interchangeable unless you really want to spend time scrutinizing instead of riding.
Let's see, 4.5 gallons of petro, ~30 (something mpg) with 3.5 gallons of petro before the reserve kicks in; compute the arithmetic.
The easiest way for me is to just monitor one of the zeroed-out trip gauges before every ride on a full tank and expect to look for a filling station at ~100 miles.
So I suppose the moral of the story is, carry enough cash with you if you're going for a very long ride.

Yesterday I pushed it to 130. (no flash, Yosh Alpha) I will continue to tempt fate.... Jeez brother, I HIGHLY recommend you send that ecu into someone like 2wheeldynoworks or Vcyclenut. I have yosh alpha 3/4 system but the first flash i just left the stock exhaust in place, flapper valve and all. Flash is where you find 95% of power. You feel slightly more power after the decat/ yosh system but it mostly getting to hear that gorgeous engine!I then added the yosh system, sprint filter and of course had it reflashed accordingly as they need more fuel, especially down low. I ride my bike pretty hard but get about 25mpg. That's just the price of admission for the awesome cp4👍
