Hi there, I'm a proud recent owner of a nearly-new MT-10SP, having picked it up about a month ago in a private sale. Loving it so far (I upgraded from an MT-09, and it's one of my dream bikes). It has been running fine for the first couple of weeks, but I've had a few starting problems recently, whereby the engine has some trouble starting, until eventually it'll start to tick over at very low revs ( less than 1,000) with the throttle not responding at all. A few more restarts and the engine starts normally, though there's a couple of engine warning codes (which I've read with an ODB2 reader):
$7E8: Engine: P0638: Throttle Actuator Control Range / Performance Bank 1 and a second $7ED: which doesn't seem to have a code description
Battery has been fully charged up. After removing the codes and making sure the battery is fully charged, it runs for a couple of days and the problem repeats. A search on these helpful pages shows where folks have previously reversed the polarity of their batteries when installing and blown a fuse, but haven't manhandled the battery in this case and it does run properly after clearing/charging. Will go check the fuses, but it seems unlikely in that it does eventually run fine. It did first happen the night after riding through some heavy rain. Maybe water ingress somewhere around the throttle? Will eventually bring it to a local dealer, but I'm pretty sure they'll be similarly in the dark. Thanks so much!

Hi there! I bought the same bike last spring and this fall got exactly the same symptomps when starting the bike in my garage with a bit more cold conditions. There's no throttle response at all at about 1k rpm and after a while it might turn to normal with a few restarts.
I took it to service and they have been examining it for a few weeks now. I have a regular MT-10, 2016 model, giving the same P0638 fault code when this happens.
If you get to resolve this problem, please let me know what was the issue!

Hey jkaz0r, I think I got to the bottom of the problem. I took a look through the Service Manual and it described a couple of potential issues: 1. Connection of throttle servo motor coupler 2. Connection of wire harness ECU coupler 3. Check the electronic throttle valve fuse 4. Wire harness continuity etc. Have a look around page 508. The fuses were the first thing I checked and they were all fine. The problem for me was intermittent, so it was unlikely to be a permanent problem like a break in wiring harness. There was a lot of water and dirt ingress under the seat (doesn't seem like a great seal for Irish weather conditions). I reseated all the main fuses, and the cables/fuses around the starter relay, and the problem hasn't happened since, so I think the problem may have been related to poor seating of a cable or fuse around the starter relay. I doused everything in ACF50, and it hasn't reoccurred for a few weeks (was happening every 2-3 days). Hope you get it sorted.
