I went to start the FZ10 and it had quite a bit of trouble before starting. Although it did start, I knew something was off. My Guzzi Griso had some wires chewed by rodents and I had to splice in some new wiring. So I took things apart to look under the FZ's tank. Sure enough, some partially chewed wires right next to the below connector. They are not chewed all of the way through. I need opinions. Should I try to find a new connector and splice the wires into it? Or does it look like I can just wrap the bare wires on the existing connector and call it a day?

I mean I can't see how damaged, if at all, the copper wires are from the photos. If they aren't damaged and given that is a low voltage wire, I would probably just wrap them up with electrical tape to prevent arching and call it a day. If there's significant damage to the copper, you could start getting shorts and it's probably best to do new wire.

If the copper isn’t frayed too much you may be able to put some heat shrink to cover it. Also looks like you have enough length in wire to redo the plug from chew point. I’m sure others will chime in. You can probably use electrical tape for temp measure for now but get the good stuff (3M) not cheapo plastic tape.

Thanks for the responses Red and Black and mt10orc. The wires appear to still be well connected, so I went ahead and used a little liquid tape to cover the bared copper and then wrapped 3M electrical tape around each wire. I figured this would be okay, but did not know how critical this connector was so I was hoping someone would say exactly what you had said. As you know, it's a bit of a PITA to get under the tank so I didn't want to do it all over again.
Time to put it back together now.
