Hello!
Just bought my first MT-10 and I am having some problems.
When in neutral, parked. Giving it steady throttle it can't properly hold the revs. It holds say 6k revs for a few seconds, then drops 2k revs and just jumps around at that sort of interval.
This is also present when driving. When reaching equilibrium with a set throttle position and speed (I.E not accelerating anymore, steady throttle) it jerks you around. Happens in all gears and rev ranges. It basically makes it unridable.
Things that I think could be the cause: 1. Fuel pump strainer 2. Injectors 3. Sparkplugs
I think it's more present when the bike is cold. It has happened twice when I start it cold it just dies after 0.5-1 seconds. Then starting it again it will be fine. But throttle does feel more jerky.
Sometimes when riding super slow in 1st (5km/h). I ride with half clutch, I give it some throttle and nothing happens, I give it more to not fall and it will overshoot because I gave it too much throttle.
Does anyone have any ideas? No engine lights or anything like that.
Thanks in advance!

Hmm... very weird. Would it be possible to share a video of the bike acting weird? I'm sure there are some motorheads that can identify some issues just by the sound.
Have you done any work to the bike before this started happening? has the bike gotten wet or have you washed the bike recently before this started happening?
I'm really not sure - but it sounds like the bike is misfiring to me. I'm not familiar with a lot of the newer electronics which could be malfunctioning - but start with the spark plugs in my opinion...

I would check for vacuum leaks.

What year is it? How many miles on it? What mods does it have (if any)? Any idea if it has an ECU flash or Power Commander? Are the throttle cables adjusted correctly? It almost sounds like something is up with the ECU tuning - the throttle on this bike is electric. The twist grip pulls a cable that turns a potentiometer. The ECU reads this position and then sets the actual throttle valve position based on the mapping inside it. It sounds like there's something goofy going on with that system. Maybe the potentiometer is worn or has a dead spot or isn't adjusted properly. The POT is #25 on this drawing and it is adjustable as well. If someone screwed with it it might be off. Link: www.partzilla.com/catalog/yamaha/motorcycle/2019/mt10-mt10kgy/intake-2Take a look at the service manual, there should be a section on how to set it properly, hopefully without needing some special dealer computer. I remember having to do that on my old TLR (it displayed the TPS setting on the dash when the dealer mode plug was jumped) even though it was a regular throttle. But setting the TPS is something that needs to be correct on all modern EFI bikes (and even carbed bikes with a TPS for ignition timing). Edit 2: It starts on page 7-13 of the manual and you do need the Yamaha diagnostic tool unfortunately, but that's adjusting the TPS on the throttle bodies, not on the throttle tube side. Also the throttle bodies need to be removed to do it properly so expect a couple hundred $$ at a dealer between tank and airbox removal and reinstallation. The sensor itself should read 1.2-2.8k ohms resistance and have between 0.63 and 0.73 VDC output so you could check with a multimeter and make sure it's working correctly The TPS on the throttle bodies also uses the same resistance range but has no voltage spec which means it must be resistance only. Don't go poking around if you don't know what you're doing though - a slip up could possibly damage the sensor or the ECU. You can ge thet service manual from my Google Drive as well: drive.google.com/file/d/1oBbHZxAv4k8al8sPiKlOTy_2urWQVyi8/view?usp=sharing

Looks like Will has this covered.

Thanks all for your suggestions!
I put my findings in a video for anyone in the future:
Now it's fully ridable and works fantastic. Before it was basically trying to throw me off in roundabouts. But it's still a little jerky at high RPMS (8k+), this is compared to my previous MT-07. Is this the nature of the bike or should keep looking for additional problems?
