I hope this is in the right section - I'm coming from a Yamaha FZ8. I'm planning to get the new 2022 MT-10 in the US. It's going to be the first time I've ever bought a brand new bike.
Anyway - the big question I'm asking myself - Do I get the extended warranty? How much does it cost (or did it cost you). I want to get the 5 year warranty.
I love the idea of my bike having a warranty. Even though Yamaha tends to make reliable bikes; I just want the peace of mind. It also might help if I end up selling the bike.
Some things to note: 1) The only "engine" modification I would like to make is potentially an aftermarket slip-on exhaust; as long as it does not require a tune. I will not be getting a flash/tune. 2) The bike will get used... Not a ton, but will get used. I bought my FZ8 ~4.5 years ago and have put on 40k miles on it. I'm hoping to get 5-7k miles a season.
Other than sharing pricing - I would be also interested to know: 1) Have you had any repairs under warranty? Was it painless? 2) Any repairs rejected for warranty work?
Thanks for any and all helpful input.
EDIT: Of course I tried googling some information about pricing - but I wasn't able to find updated, related information pertaining to the MT-10. I assume the coverage costs differ between different Yamaha products.

There's a decent thread on this already, might help you get some insight. fz10.org/thread/2891/buy-yamahas-yr-contract-fzI personally have not. Im not normally an extended warranty guy, it has to be a really good deal for me. I would also consider that If you don't get a flash tune, you may have some issues with the bike. You may have a drop in low end horsepower and significant deacceleration popping. I had my exhaust on for a couple weeks before I was able to get it in and get tuned and I was shooting gunshots out of the exhaust. It was LOUD.

Based mod - I need to use the search functionality better.
It seems like it was almost 50/50 split - but overall more people opted out of the extended warranty; since Yamaha creates such a reliable product.
It's funny, I saw a lot of people say they got the extended warranty - but not many people mention that they USED the warranty.
I think if I can get the 4 year warranty for ~$550; then maybe I would get it. Else, I'll go off the hope that I won't experience any catastrophic engine failure. I know I sound like a squid, I kind of like the sound of subtle decel pops; but I know it's just the tell-tale sign of a poorly-tuned bike.
It sucks that there are so many mods which will void warranty.
Thanks for the advice!

Say NO to YES.
You should never buy an extended warranty. Ever. It's a money making scheme.

As a retired mechanic I can tell you that they would have required receipts for transmission services from day 1. If you don't have those then they would have voided coverage then you'd have been out $899 for a worthless contract and $4000 for a transmission. Can't tell you how many pissed of customers I've dealt with over this stuff. I could never recommend a service contract.

You can't compare an American product here. we're talking about Japanese quality 😉 American cars are built to last one lease period before they literally fall apart. you're not on a Harley forum.

That has nothing to do with the tactics of a warranty company.

Trans service was done at 60k like you're supposed to - fluid and filter. Didn't even make it to the second service - truck only has 99k on it.

I got my second YES letter in the mail for my 2019 MT-10. They want $440 for a year's coverage, or about $690 for 4 years. I think it's expensive for what it is, if I could get an additional year for $200 I'd spring for it, as of now it's going to be no way.

I agree that $690 is quite expensive; this is a bit more than I'd be willing to shell out.. I've given myself a hard limit of $600 for the 4 year warranty. Just recently looking through newer posts I see that one fairly common issue was headlamps cracking, and that headlight assembly seems to be quite expensive.

I got it. Rolled it into the deal on the bike. IT's cheap insurance I feel and the piece of mind is worth it to me. I buy all my oil at filters at the dealer so they have the receipts on file.

My FZ-10 was purchased in Nov 2016 and I bought the YES warranty extending it for a total of five years until Nov 2021. Have had ZERO issues so it was wasted money for me. These machines are pretty bulletproof if you don't abuse them. I don't think the extended warranty is warranted!

I only buy those types of warranties if I am buying used. I do it because I just will never know what the previous owner(s) did (or did not do) to the machine.
If buying new I never buy these warranties. I know I service and take care of bike properly.
