I was concerned when I bought my 2021 four weeks ago that I might regret it .. I don’t …..

I seriously want to upgrade for all that sweet new tech (still no mention of a US SP model though!) but I just can't get over the looks.

Why wait when you can just get a 2015+ R1 MC that works quite well? I'm hoping this one won't need any workaround to the brake light switches like you need to do for the R1 swap Workaround? I did the swap and my original switch mounted right up, no faffing about necessary.

Not a single mention of it from Yamaha USA....

Not quite sure what the point of the video is. *shrug*
I didn't have to disassemble anything. Unscrewed the switch from my stock linear MC, removed the brake unit from the handlebar, replaced it with a clean used radial MC from a 2015 R1 (along with running direct lines but that's another story), and installed the switch on it. I've been running this setup for over two years now with no issues.

He then shows you how to modify the switch so that the light will come on before you actually start braking like it's supposed to

Soon as somebody retrofits the TFT display I'll be doing that. The rest isn't enough for me to get rid of my baby.

Just to look at the differences.

The upgrades:
6HP Ti Exhaust Brembo radial m/c TFT Display Up/Down QS Supposedly better MPG (no numbers yet but that's what Yamaha says) Black rearsets (silver pegs still) Black triples and bar clamps (silver bars still)
The Body changes:
Headlight surround gone Chin spoiler gone Side panels reduced to tiny frame inserts Tail side trim panels gone Tail rear trim panels gone Rear lens now red instead of clear New ugly emoji-style DRL eyebrows Made radiator side shrouds bulky and rounded Rounded off angles on the tank/tank trims Shrunk the side "intakes"
No sir I don't like it.
I'll put a Translogic auto blipper on mine along with either the R1 m/c kit or maybe the new updated MT kit and if I really want the Ti exhaust I'll get R1 headers. The 2WDW tune makes more HP than Yamaha's measly 6 increase. I was also planning on getting my silver bits powdercoated black anyways and getting some black bars too.
I'd love the TFT but I'm sure that'll be a HUGE PITA swap if it's even possible

Just to look at the differences. I don't mind/care much for the "eyebrows" but don't love the speed triple headlights vibe. whoever will sell aftermarket winglets to put under the front headlights will probably get a good amount of customers.

Supposedly better MPG (no numbers yet but that's what Yamaha says) According to Yamaha Europe, 6.8L/100 km or about 35mpg

I see mostly negative feedback regarding the new 2022 MT-10 by current owners. I recall the same backlash by Jeep Wrangler JK owners when the new 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL came out. Many of them have now upgraded to the Wrangler JL because it is clearly a big upgrade despite the looks that some may not like.
I don't think the looks of the 2022 MT-10 are any worse or better than the 2021 model. I think once we see them on the road opinions will slowly change. Looks of course are subjective but there is no debating the performance and feature upgrades are an improvement over the 2021 model.
Personally I am glad I waited. I like the performance and feature upgrades of the 2022. I would have been upset at myself if I had bought a 2021 model and less than a year later owned what will be considered a previous generation bike.
Looks like it could be a long wait to get my hands on a 2022 MT-10. February at the earliest but most likely later. No worries. I am patient and I have other bikes in the stable to ride.
Looking forward to learning more about the new bike as Yamaha releases more details later in the month. Cheers!

I’m in the same situation. I’ve been wanting a mt10 for about 2 years now and glad I waited. Now I have the choice on either getting the old Gen or the new Gen. And I’ll go for the new Gen. Also sucks that I won’t be able to get one right away (most likely) because of the microchip shortage + dealer mark up.
In the meantime I’ll keep riding my MT09 as i have a ton of fun every single time I ride it

it's really growing on me. I've added the winglets under the headlights from the old gen, removed the license plate bracket and mirrors and I'm liking the look of it a lot.

That chin spoiler helps a LOT. Still zero mention of it from Yamaha US though - nobody's talking about that. Everything so far has come from Yamaha EU
