Hello everyone I just purchased a brand new 2021 mt10…I’m in the US and I was watching a video that showed keys to an mt10 and they do not look like mine…I received 2 black keys and one has a small tag to register new keys(says salesman who said he had a hard time finding the keys to begin with), in the video there were 2 black and a red key that was used to register a new key. I don’t know what’s right now and I would love to hear from someone who purchased a newer mt10 and what keys they received and possibly a picture of their key….

These are the keys for my 2017 MT-10SP, 2 x black and one red. It is possible that the US-market bikes don't use a chip-key immobiliser in which case the keys will be "dumb" and a red programming key won't be needed ever. Does your bike have a slow blinking red light on the dash when it is switched off? That is usually a sign of an immobiliser.  |

So after looking into it further…in the states we do not get the immobilizer keys ,we receive 2 ebay looking key blank keys…is it petty of me to say I’m disappointed in my keys? Thank you for your fast response and picture

My bike came with only one cheap looking like yours I bought bike used. I did buy another cheap ass key along with the better looking euro ones with aluminum cover for it still need to get it cut at my local ace hardware. Some poeple don't care about small details and some poeple do.. I do think we are better off without the chip after other chipped keys..

New 2021 in the US and got 2 similar basic keys. I prefer it, made a couple copies for about $20 all in.

It means that the seller still have a key of your bike ... not safe especialy if he has your adress. With the immobilizer (in Europe for exemple) in this case the dealer can erase all the keys and add only the one(s) you have. |

Bought from a dealer but I do know the original owner now he's cool and I know where he lives either him or the dealer knows what happened to the extra key lost in the dealer transfer they assume This bike seldom leaves my sight when out and about.
I do have full coverage worse case anyway I had to deal with chiped keys with jets skis and jet boat what a plan they are and not cheap either.

in the US we don't get the immobilizer but I'd rather have a bike in the US without it than a bike in Europe with it.
I grew up in France and had to put 2 locks on a shitty 50cc scooter to make sure it wouldn't get stolen. An MT10 with no lock is for sure gone in France.
Since i'm in the US I've had an MT07, MT09, and now MT10 and never had to put a lock ever. I'm not saying that motorcycles don't get stolen in the US, but A LOT less than in Europe. In Europe you need to lock your bike everywhere no matter how safe the area is. In the US, I would only put a lock if I were in a very shitty area at night (it could be different in other states?)

I wonder what the melting point is of that plastic. |

Yeah, twin set of the thin black keys for my MT10 with the metal tab. I took one to Lowes just for grins to see if they could make one on the cheap, it carved out alright but t he thickness was an issue. It was only a few bucks and worth a shot, I like to have a few sets of keys "just in case".

Dealer would have charged you a hundred dollars for a lost or spare if it was chipped key.
Be happy it's a simple thing to copy at any key shop.
