I'm tossing around the idea of changing sprockets and chain on my bike.
I'm looking for a bit better gas mileage and less wheelie prone behavior.
I do track days on my bike and generally like the stock setup but I also do road trips that are 700+ miles. Having to fill up every 120 miles gets old.
If you have gone +1 on the front sprocket or -2 in the back, or some other combination I would love to hear your thoughts and opinions.

I couldn't put any power down without wheelies. So I went back to stock 16t front and -2 in rear. I can put the power down much easier now and maybe gained 400 rpms lower when on the highway. However, gas mileage only maybe increased 0.5. My understanding is I have stock R1 gearing now. Id recommend doing it.

Can a 17t fit the front I'm thinking going with taller ratio also the bike has the power to pull it no problem. Check out gearcommander.com It's cool you can play with different combinations of gear and rpm..

I just picked up my bike yesterday after getting a new chain and sprockets installed. I went with a 41 tooth rear and stock front and this is how the bike should've come from factory. I noticed NO loss in low down torque and throttle control through corners was much more manageable. The biggest difference was on the highway. at 80mph the RPMs used to be at 6,500 now they are under 6k and it's a massive improvement. If you're not hooning all the time on your FZ/MT-10 I can't recommend doing a 41 tooth rear enough. You won't regret it.

I'm thinking of doing it just to get the revs down on the highway

Does the speedometer need to be calibrated when changing gearing?

Does the speedometer need to be calibrated when changing gearing? I would believe so, as your changing the gearing if the sprockets are not identical to the factory installed ones.

Does the speedometer need to be calibrated when changing gearing? I don’t believe it needs to be calibrated due to gear change. I think speed is based off of ABS.

In the manual, it says to check the rear wheel speed sensor and wiring if the speedometer doesn’t operate.

Where’s the speed sensor? Final drive, transmission, wheels? 1 tooth on the front or 2 on the back wouldn’t change the signal much I guess if the speed sensor is on the final drive/transmission.

I just read on another thread the speed sensor runs off one of the abs sensors which is looking at the wheels. So recalibration is not required when changing sprocket sizes .

It runs off the rear ABS sensor but it's still off from factory. At 70MPH indicated my Google Maps GPS is reading 65. That's putting a ton of extra miles on the bike that aren't actually on it. I'm getting one of these soon: www.healtech-electronics.com/products/shThe fitment for the MT-10 is SH-V4-TSD module + SH-U01 harness

I had to have the rear sprocket made. It was still only about $80 for the rear
