I bought my MT10 in November and haven't had the opportunity to take it on a longer trip until today. I've done several 60-120 mile rides around our area here in Hopkinsville, KY and have dialed in some fun routes. They don't compare to Eastern KY or TN/NC but for this area, they are a good fit for this bike. BUT I've been dying to take it to NC and ride the Cherohala and the Dragon to compare it to my other bikes.
Here are a couple things I learned today, some bad - some good.
It's been a long time since I've had a bike without a fairing and a large windshield. My other bikes are an FJR and a Goldwing. The Goldwing has heated seats and grips. I know I need that for riding in the 30's and I know I'm good with that for my current gear. I can handle the low 40's pretty well on the FJR but I've got to make sure I have my winter gloves. I was fine this morning when I left on the MT10 at 46. I was surprised how good it felt. But the real surprise was even after it warmed up to 52 in two hours, I got chilled and could not get warm. I do have a sinus infection, so that might have made it worse, but once you get cold, it's hard to press through it if you don't have any other layers to add. I actually bought a sweatshirt today at a truck stop to add a third shirt layer under my Rev-IT jacket that already has two liners. That still didn't cut it. The absent fairing makes a real difference in the colder temps. This won't normally be a huge deal except for this trip, because I can either take one of the other bikes if it's cold or spring for some heated gear. One other trick if I'm really cold is to put the rain gear on over my jacket which helps more than it seems like it should because of airflow. There was no chance of rain this trip, so I didn't pack it. I had to cut the trip short because tomorrow will be pretty much the same temp and I was feeling like I was going to get sicker from being so cold.
Even though I didn't make it anywhere great, I still rode 327 miles today. I was not sure how that would feel and I'm thrilled that I could have done more. The cold was the only deterrent to me cutting the weekend short. My butt was sore, but really it felt comparable to the FJR which has a Russell Day Long and like about 400 on the Goldwing. The MT10 has the stock seat with a beadrider on it. I have posted here in accessories on that and I know it has questionable looks, but for ride comfort and cost, I am thrilled. I won't be considering the gel seat or other options any more. I am VERY pleased with the ergonomics of the MT10. It fits me very well and I don't have any unexpected pains.
The performance and handling of the bike is still awesome, but I was already convinced of that.

I have also had a couple of first season rides. Absolutely love. But I have heated jacket ,gloves and grips. So no problem for me in the 0C,or32F degree weather we unfortunately have where I live.
Enjoy the ride!

We do loads of trips on our 10, have done for past 5 years. We have the comfort seat, rear pod (50L) with back rest and rack and 15l givi tankbag. Whilst the rear boot has turned this bike into a bit of a tourer for us, it’s the MADSTAD windscreen that I wish I’d purchased at point of sale. Wind blast at speeds over 100 especially on 7 hour rides can be deafening, hence my recently developed tinitus(permanent ringing in the ears). Its a whopping 22” long (goes up n down, can change angle as well) and with two clips can be de-mounted in seconds. So it’s up to you, go naked go goldwing or get the flyscreen and go somewhere in between...all in a matter of seconds. (3L uglybros tank bag in shot) Heading off tomorrow for 7 day trip...Aust, NSW - Bathurst Orange Yass Cooma Snowy Mountains..... This bike has been an all round brilliant ride, my only complaint is the amount of stops and worries about running out of fuel. Demo unclipping screen...

I am interested in buying the madstad for my 10, but unsure about the size. I’m from Canada and shipping it back for a different size is not worth it. I’m 6’4 with a 34” inseam. I called and they said I could custom or a 24 inch if I wanted. Debating this or the 22.

I have a Puig touring windscreen and I'm very satisfied. Those 20 and 22" models probably do a better job but I don't like the look. BTW, I'm 6'1" and don't get any wind buffeting with the Puig. I also have the Yamaha heated grips which are ok but not great. again, they don't require extra switches and look good so I've compromised.
I'm also a big fan of Cycle Gear windproof base layers. They work well and are inexpensive. With the screen, grips and base layers I'm comfortable down to about 45 °. I wouldn't want to do a long trip at colder than that. I'm sure there are others that will be comfortable at lower temps.

Did you change the settings on the grips? I've heard they're pre-set at the factory to the lowest engine size setting and people don't change it and think they don't work good

I purposely purchased this bike for warmer times of the season like 50F and above Hands do get chilly slabbing it on the way home after a 4/5 hr ride in 50 degree weather may add some bark busters? maybe some fancy ones with lights??

I think hand guards, heated grips, and the Madstad would make a huge difference. I like how the Madstad comes right off too.

Easy install? Havent got the fly but its a brilliant setup screen. My only mistake was not getting it sooner. And for anyone interested based on everything I've read in the forums and from experience I'm 5'10 and the 22" is just right. General consensus for those who purchased the shorter setup was - send it back and just goo 22" regardsless of your height. Get the flyscreen for scooting around.
