hi guys newbie here please bear with my long post. so i have a 2019 yamaha mt10 with around 3k miles on it, and this is what happened, so i was using it for daily commuting for around a week before this happened, when i got to work twice in a row i put the ignition to P, i didnt know what it was until then i just saw here in the forum that it was bad to put it to P for a long time, and after the 2nd day when i was on my way home i got a check engine light, so i pulled over to the side and my bike wont start so i got help towed the bike home and charged the battery, and in the morning it starts i rode to work and everything was fine, i work 44 miles back and forth, so when i was on my way home on the freeway, the CEL appears again, so i told my self that im 7 miles away from home and i wont pull over, but after the CEL light popped up the light on the dash disappeared and my bike suddenly shuts off, and i had my bike towed again to home, so just wanna ask is it just battery? or the battery is not charging because of somethin else? my dealer is 1 month out, and i need my bike to go to work. thank you so much guys.

Not knowing what DTC set the CEL, I suspect that the fault is the battery. If the battery becomes fully discharged and is recharged at a high amperage, it can damage the battery. The charging system cannot charge a damaged battery and can set the CEL to indicate the system is not working properly.

Lithium (another good song) batteries can't survive being drained all the way down. I'm pretty sure that is what our bike comes with.

Our bikes don't come with lithium batteries. They're standard sealed AGM. There are lithium ones that fit though but if you do any cold weather riding they're worse for working in the cold than AGM.

I've been using shorai lithium batteries for years on the MT10,ZX14R and R1 when I had it and never had a problem. I do use the shorai charger from time to time. If you leave your bike outside in the snow for a period of time you will have problems. Isn't that the same for all batteries?

I've been using lithium on my bike for almost 2 years now and no regrets. Starts with full cranking power every time!

Did you go with a lithium or oem AGM? I'm with the guys above about lithium 100% can't wait to buy one for the 10.
Oem battery still holding up so ill see how long it goes on the battery tender when parked. Here is question though it get pretty hot here in socal and sometime traffic light take forever and I will kill the bike waiting for a green light.
So what I'm saying is I get off a off ramp bike is running 175 maybe 180 or more then I sit at a light watching coolant rise when running sometimes to when the fan cone on around 210 with the tune . So is it good or bad to kill it when it's still at 185. Or bad with heat sink.
I don't do it often only when I know I'll be waiting awhile for the green light . This might not be the right thread for this question I should look through the forum on this I guess.

If you want your bike to start on fire lithium is good choice. Especially worth the extra money since it saves two pounds which for the average rider on here is worth a total of 0 gains.

I've been running a lithium battery for over a year now with zero issues.
Starts every time, no need to trickle charge in winter, and yeah its lighter.

I've been running lithium in my kids raptor 4 years now off roading in harsh climates from freezing to hot desert days with zero issue's . They are 4 to 5 pounds lighter then a OEM battery. Just about every rechargeable tool on the planet now uses lithium in all construction trades that take lots of abuse day after day.
These new lithium motor sport batteries along with power tools are made to last and take a beating not like a cell phone or laptop.
