I've read several posts about this and it seems to be any number of things. However, most of the time it is either always working or not. On my way to work it's flashing, on my way home it's solid and works. Had stock clutch and brake levers, switched to asv levers with the correct parts for the switch/sensor. So doubt it is lever related. Ill wiggle the levers, rear brake and shift lever while riding but have never been able to fix the cruise control on a ride once its blinking. Is there anything else obvious I can check?

Is your brake switch sticking? Easily checked by watching the light when you are in the off position.
I changed my levers and never had issue.
Both clutch and brake turn off the cruise control so you might be into something. Perhaps re try with stock levers.

I doubt it's the levers as it happened with both stock and now aftermarket. Ill look at the rear brake switch based on how dirty will can get.

It's a hundred percent either clutch switch or front or rear brake switch related.

There's a recall from Yamaha on the switch.

Debris could cause a brake light or a cruise control problem. Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA issued a recall on several 2013 to 2020 models due to a problematic front brake switch. According to documents published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Yamaha expects that 50 percent of the 18,203 vehicles involved in this recall will present the issue. The motorcycles targeted by this recall are the following: 2013-2020 Yamaha FJR1300 2017-2020 Yamaha MT-10 2019 Yamaha Niken GT 2018-2021 Yamaha Star Eluder 2018-2020 Yamaha Super Ténéré 2018-2020 Yamaha Tracer 900 GT 2018 Yamaha Star Venture Yamaha US explains in the safety recall report that it received a report from the Yamaha head office that on some bikes, the presence of “silicon oxide” in the front brake switch can cause increased resistance. Note from the editor: Considering the report is riddled with typos, we suppose the problem here is actually silicon dioxide deposits, which is something other manufacturers have reported in the past as affecting the light brake switch on their vehicles. On The Bulletin Board: recall 2016 2020 yamaha fjr1300 gearbox Recall: Yamaha Recommends You Leave Your FJR1300 At Home recall yamaha mt03 r3 xmax 1 Recall: Yamaha Recalls 31,000 Bikes For A Reflector Problem The presence of deposits on the front brake switch can cause the brake light to remain on even when the front brake isn’t activated. It can also affect the cruise control’s functionality, keeping the rider from engaging the system or causing the system to shut off on its own. A problem with proper signalization could ultimately lead to a crash as road users behind the vehicle wouldn’t notice when the brakes are actually applied. Recall number 990140 is set to begin on January 13, 2021. Yamaha will contact owners affected by this recall by mail and invite them to visit their Yamaha dealer to have the front brake switch replaced, free of charge. Should they have any questions or concerns, owners of the vehicles listed above are welcome to reach out to Yamaha's customer service at 1-800-962-7926 to have their VIN verified. Customers can also address their questions to the NHTSA’s safety hotline service at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov for more information.

Have a 2017 made in April 2016 and in that time I've had no issues with the cruise control, it must be random and possibly related to riding conditions (wet weather or high humidity). Will be interesting to see what the recall says.

It was the secondary front brake switch for me. Ended up buying the micro switch from the UK for something like $5 US and soldered it in, works perfect!

Just checked my VIN on the Yamaha USA website today, Jan 19th, and it shows NO recall for my 2017 FZ-10. Hopefully their database us up to date and mine won't need any work done, it hasn't given me any issues in the 4+ years I've owned it re. the cruise control.

Hi I have a mt10-sp 2017 from new, and just before Christmas I received a recall from Yamaha UK. Tell me that there's a problem with the cruise control, and take to the dealer. I have never had any problems with the cruise control, but I think some people have had problems. Hope this helps.

If I put in my VIN on that site it says Yamaha does not recognize my VIN. However if it enter it at the link below it lists the recall. here

Thanks will that one worked. Indeed I have suffered the fate of the recall as well. I probably won't take it in. A-never had the issue. B-dealership work quality is questionable.
Would they give me the part do myself?

Would they give me the part do myself? I was thinking the same. I'd rather be the one working on my bike. You'd have to call the dealer and ask but my guess is no because it's a factory recall. I'm going to ask my dealer the same thing. If they say I have to bring it in I'll just make an appointment and stop on my way home from work. Can't take the long to replace the switch.

Yamaha will NOT give you the part to do the work yourself as the liability is too great because a) the owner may not do it, or b) do it wrong. Both of these leave the dealer and Yamaha wide open for legal action. This is a simple thing to replace unless the shop is completely inept.

How much is it? I'd really not have them touch it.
