A quick search says this is a massive no-no, and I've bought a new master link to replace mine anyways. However, I don't understand why there would be an issue reusing a masterlink if it is straight and matching depth.
I over tightened my master link installing a new chain. Was able to push the rivets out just enough. Pressed them back, and reinstalled the master link with proper compression.
I bought a new master link to replace it with to be safe. But what would be an issue with this? Nothing is deformed and everything is compression as it should be.

The rivets were flared, so material was moved. I think it’s your call if you want to accept the risk.

The rivets were pressed into the plate, then pressed back out. Nothing mushroomed, bent or stretched. Looked exactly the same as when I got it. So not sure what damage, or material moved, would have been done to the rivets.

If you never flared the ends of the rivets I'd run it. You just pushed the link on, pulled it back and re-set it THEN riveted it. I see no problems with this.

Thanks, I clearly didn't explain it properly in the first post. Have flaired the rivets now and everything seems good.
