I searched the forum and didn't see much about this topic. How many miles are you guys getting out of chains and sprockets?
I'm also wondering about chain size. The stock chain is 525 but virtually every 525 aftermarket chain states that it's recommended for up to around 100 HP. I've done chains and sprockets on a lot of bikes but never saw a discrepancy like this before.

I see them rated on displacement from DID, RK, EK. It looks dependent on chain model from each manufacturer.
I wouldn’t be concerned about if the factory 525 is enough. Just ride the bike.

Yea there's people doing 520 conversions for that extra 0.0002845HP so I wouldn't worry about it. I'm used to liter bikes coming with a beefy 530 chain that tends to last quite a while. But chain life is dependent on how you are about maintaining it - keep it loose and dry and it'll wear out fast. I usually check tension and clean/lube at least once a month. Cheap insurance and it makes them last a long time. I've always used the Bel-Ray Super Clean chain lube too. Works awesome with minimal fling-off

I have 25,000 miles on my original chain and sprockets and they still look great. No tight links and the sprockets aren't really rounded yet. I was going to replace this winter, but may wait another (5K mile) year......
I use Chain wax and "lube" about every 4-500 miles. Minimal adjustment since the first couple of thousand miles. RUN IT!

Yamaha parts diagram clearly shows 525 so that's what I'm going to use. I've always done my own work and I like to understand how stuff works.

I'm surprised as well that it came with a 525 instead of a 530. My theory with these kinda thing is if it came like that from the factory it's gotta be fine.
