I have my new front sprocket and chain but my rear sprocket is stuck in transit.
Would installing a new chain and front sprocket now and changing the rear sprocket in 1-2 weeks have any negative effects?

Probably not.
Would waiting to install the front sprocket and chain cause any problems?

Probably not. Would waiting to install the front sprocket and chain cause any problems? I don't think the current chain is safe to ride on. There's rubber bits from the o-rings sticking out on a couple links

If your rear sprocket doesn’t look bad and you don’t put in an insane amount of miles, I don’t think you’d have any issues changing just the front sprocket and chain for the two weeks until your rear sprocket gets in. I’d do it.
There’s probably a ton of o ring pieces under your front sprocket cover.

Chain and sprockets wear together, so putting a new chain on an old sprocket will increase wear on it. There must be somewhere you can get a rear sprocket sooner then 1-2 weeks?

A day or two I’d say you’re ok a week or two I would not do that. You’ll cut the life of that new chain by at least a few hundred miles if not more

You’ll cut the life of that new chain by at least a few hundred miles if not more I think it really depends on how much he/she is using the bike. Even if it’s a 1000 mile reduction in chain life, that’s 10% of 10,000 miles. A $180 chain and sprocket set means that you’re out $18 in parts.

If you are going to do this then let the bike sit for a month then a month is fine. Guess I gotta spell it out for some popper. I ride every day I can. Which includes a 50 mile round trip commute. I wouldn’t recommend doing that for a week but a day or two should be fine. Is that better?
