Hi can you change air filter without removing the tank I have seen somewhere that you can hinge it backwards and prop up with a piece of wood I used to do this with my other bikes! But some say you need to remove the tank which is correct or are both OK?

Are you serious ? Just remove the tank and open up the filter housing to change the filter or go to a dealership

Guess I would reply why would you remove the tank simply to change the air filter?? Spark plugs or deeper, throttle body sync, Sure remove the tank. Otherwise you're just wasting your time and running the risk of unnecessary damage.

To prop the tank up, while stretching the fuel line/vent hoses is very sketchy. It also limits your visibility and you don't want to leave any debris in there or knock the tank off it's makeshift prop. It is not wasting time in my opinion, especially since it takes only five more minutes!

As stated, it's better to remove the tank. But to make the job easier, I'd definitely let it get into reserve before doing the job. That way no need to drain any fuel, nor the tank would be too heavy to handle. On some bikes, the gas tanks are designed to be propped up, but don't think that's the case with the FZ/MT-10s.
Bottom line is if almost everybody says it's better to remove the tank, which obviously takes longer, I'd heed that advice . But to each his own.
