I have decated mine it has arrow exhaust fitted i'm going to fit a K&N air filter do i need to block off the AIS or is this just to stop the popping and back fire on off throttle which does not bother me, i have seen where you can just put a bolt in the airbox inlet hole for AIS or buy blanking plates is there any difference either way?

It's basically like you said, you don't NEED to do the AIS blockoff if you don't mind the popping. But if you'd like to get rid of it, you can do blockoff plates. Just leave the AIS motor plugged in or it'll cause a CEL. Other option would be to get a flash.

I'd think twice before putting a racing filter like K&N on your street bike. They filter for crap, and it's a fact. If you insist on changing the filter, buy a performance PAPER filter, which actually filter much better than oiled cotton-gauze. Your engine will thank you later.
As far as your question, yes, blocking the airbox inlet (I'd use a rubber plug and a clamp) would have the same effect as removing all the hardware. Everything would keep working, but no air would flow to the exhaust ports. Hope this helps.

When u get a flash the AIS is closed so no need for block off plates. I should say that is on a 2020 MT-10.

Blocking it off is more of a dyno tune requirement. If you don't mind popping and you're just getting flashed you can disregard the procedure or just block the tube with a marble or whatever.
