for the next time you change your chain, keep this part in mind: it is part # B67-2537W-00-00 and it costs $15 I'm planning on powder coating mine black.

I was contemplating doing that early on, but then decided to remove it. Go for it, it should look good.

Changing the chain usually means changing out the sprockets as well. I see no sense in mounting that piece on a nice new aftermarket sprocket, lol.

It's a safety ring to keep chain from jamming between the swingarm and hub, in case the chain somehow came off. Only reason I can think of. Took mine off a few months after I got the bike.
