So I have a little problem...I have these two Pitbull stands which work great: But when I decided to powder coat some items, the front stand kind of got in the way of the lower triple clamp: Sure, I could go out and buy a $400 Bursig stand, but I would rather spend $90 to get some steel and use my little brain once again. Let's gather some parts, round tube is 1-7/8" ID 1/8" wall thickness, 1.5" square tube 1/8" wall, sheet is 6X12X1/8": And I also own a Harley so I'll use it's jack: So, add all these up and you'll see where I'm going with this: Of course, I still need to get the welder out of storage and get my woman to get all her crap out of the garage (which she said will happen next weekend, then I can set up shop) so I'll get back to this thread when I'm ready to burn some steel!

So this is to replace the front stand? Cause I'm confused with the practicality of it. How are you going to get it under the bike after its all welded? Seems like your going to have to still put the bike on the front stand and then slide it under the bike long ways and then stand it up???
Maybe design it so one of the arms can come on and off. Seems like a lot of trouble just to get around the triple tree stand.
SVRacing makes Bursig type stands for half the price. I have one, thing is amazing. Does wobble a bit when doing maintenance but at the track it's great for getting the bike up off the ground to put warmers on.
Good luck with your project!

The only reason for this "mid" stand is to remove the front stand to get at the triple clamp, so for me at least it is practical. Yes the side mount stands available are all very good, I've had the rear Pitbull for a number of years now, and bought the front Pitbull when I had the MV Agusta about 5 years ago. The mid stand must be used with the rear stand for stability, the stand will slide under the bike with a tilting motion yes, then slide the jack under bike and lift stand onto the jack. There is enough room just behind the front tire to do this and the stand will weigh roughly 14 lbs. It will fit without the front stand in place, it will be a bit tight, but I don't think it will "trouble" me that much, and it should be quite stable. But the real reason for building this is an excuse to use the welder and get my woman to get rid of her crap so I can take over the garage!

This is how the stand will be used, start with bike on rear stand only, it might not look like it, but stand will slide between tire and oil cooler vertically: It looks like it won't fit, but in person the stand will clear between tire and cooler...I could turn the wheel to the side to gain a lot of room, but don't have to: At this point, stand can move back and forth with plenty of clearance: I am going to drill a hole in the vertical square tube front to back to place a tie wrap through(just under the round half-tube), this will wrap around over the sliders and draw the stand up to the sliders, giving me about 1/4" room to slide the jack under the stand.

OK, I didn't burn the house down, so lets finish this thing up: Stand slides between tire and cooler like before, no tilting needed: Then slide back a bit, get tie wraps ready(I didn't need to drill holes, just slip them under the half-tubes): Tighten the zip ties to raise the stand up, slide jack under, and hey wheel is in the air: Rock solid side to side, tiny movement front to back, but I could chock rear stand wheels if needed: So the jack will raise up 12" which is more than enough to get the forks out. That's it for this project, just have to throw some paint on it so it doesn't rust.

I just can’t focus with all that delicious carbon everywhere.

The "mid" stand finished and painted, now just have to wait till powder coaters move into their new location so I can get that lower triple clamp off.
