I'm getting all the silver handlebar stuff powder coated satin black. If you need to remove the top triple clamp, these bolts have to come out, since they not only hold the key switch, they also secure the wiring bracket that holds/routes everything coming off the bars. These are usually called breakaway bolts...there is a hex nut formed on top of the cone, and when torqued, the hex nut breaks off, leaving the conical shape with no way to remove it...well there is one way
Need to drill a hole in the side of the bolt head, then use a punch to hopefully unscrew it:

Ahh success! Was a bitch, M8X22 with Loctite. one down, one to go...the bolts are torqued much more than I thought, so a screw extractor is a must:
Sort of F'd up the other one with the hole in the side, but I do have a central hole in that one now, so it should be out shortly... So with this second bolt, I accidently drilled through the head, but it's OK, there were plenty of threads left to grab with vise grips to remove: OK, finally done and off to the powder coaters:
When all the parts are back I'll just use some M8X20 button heads to reassemble.

Looking fwd to seeing it completed. Excellent write up!! Thanks, could have gone into more detail on initial part removal, but basically everything needs to come off the handlebar, then gently remove the plastic clamps holding the wiring onto the bracket(leave clamps on the wires, just work clamps out of bracket holes). I removed the windscreen to get a bit more room to work. Parts should be ready this afternoon, so hopefully later today I'll get this finished. Finally! I'll be back later with a finished pic.

Thanks guys, still have to do the lower triple clamp, but I need to fabricate an upper engine mount cradle so I can remove the front Pitbull stand. That fab thread will hopefully start in a month or so.
