Here we go again guys. Feeling confident after the kickstand-extending journey, it's time to test my little chipmunk brain once more. In keeping with the bullet-proof nature of the Vagabond Motorsports fender eliminator license plate holder thingy, I decided to make this out of 1/8" carbon fiber sheet, pieces of Delrin where needed, brought together with teeny tiny little screws. All the features of the VM unit will be retained: stock signals, light, and key cover. I'll be back later with some parts cut out, lets just hope I don't F this one up.
EDIT: Damn! sidelined already. The T-nuts on the mini-mill are stripped out, they help hold down material to the table so I can cut-machine stuff. They will be here Wed. ARGHHH!

A small amount of progress, but not much unfortunately. I did manage to cut out the rough shapes with a Dremel, and get them close with the 12" vert. disc sander. The four upper parts in this pic are close to their final shapes/sizes(two are clamped together on the upper left, they will be the sides where the turn signals go) but there is still plenty of fitting to do before everything can come together. You might also notice everything is covered in tape to limit scratches. The U shaped piece that will attach under the bike is VERY roughly drawn, this is just to get rid of excess material. The little circles indicating the stud locations are within 1/8" of the proper locations, and once this rough shape is cut out, a more carefully measured drawing will be taped on and final shaping will be done. The "legs" of this part will probably end up just a bit smaller that the original. The "studs" will be flat head stainless screws epoxied in, as will the two screws for the key cover. I also have the license plate portion roughly cut, but no pic of that. License light and zip tie mount test fitted: I should have the carbon parts ready by Friday, I'll post up when I have progress.

Getting closer, you can see the base plate is matched up to the VM part, just minor hand filing to do and it will be ready for the screw installation, license light plate is done, both of those and the tie wrap mount part need to have angles grinded where they will all meet, I'll try and get the joints as tight as I can. The plate portion still needs a bit more work, and still have to cut out the turn signal ovals in the side pieces, which is next on the list. Then have to test fit everything together, then I'll start on the Delrin connector pieces in the morning. Hoping for a Sunday finish date.

Mounting screws epoxied in, just glued up the key cover screws now. Turn signal spacers will be hidden, so no reason to make them look good. The Delrin parts joining everything will be three sided to match the VM unit angles...you'll see

Last pics for today, tried making a plastic part but messed up, no biggie I'll just start fresh tomorrow and get this thing done. Just another mockup shot, plastic parts will be behind the carbon sides: Key cover strap just dropped right on the studs, at least I didn't mess this part up I'll make the carbon strap tomorrow:

Well, not the best looking thing around, but it's basically finished. Unfortunately I could not find my M2.5 tap, so had to go 3mm, and of course could not find enough flat heads to make it look as I intended. It will be pretty easy to countersink the holes and put them in. Plate portion bolts up using the license light screws, so that thick Delrin part might be thinned out some, I'll check it when it's time. Have to find a food scale, but I'm guessing it's about half the weight of the original. Future plans will be to make this from thin (probably .062") carbon and do a much better job to get that weight down, since this 1/8" is way too much, so I consider this a practice run. I'll get those flat heads and get it mounted on the bike, it'll be a few days.

Not my best work, but I think I can improve. Going to try a different way to make this, but it does what it's supposed to: Waiting for another piece of carbon to come in, hopefully start the new part next week.

Have all the 1/16" pieces done, just waiting on the 3/16" thick stuff to get here to make the side pieces. Went with satin twill weave: to match all this other crap:

Finally done. Decided to keep the VM key cover bar for now, maybe I'll make a carbon one later. Roland Sands Design sent me a sh*t ton of stickers when I got my Harley wheels, so I threw one on there to pretend I'm a hooligan

Is there an AGM battery for MT-10? I have had fantastic luck with Odessy AGM in my gen 1 VMAX.

Looks cool, a lot of work. Question - is that an extra long frame slider or does it double as a highway peg?
