Well, my bike's anniversary was this past Tuesday, while I was enjoying the TX Hill Country. Decided not to get Y.E.S., and already voted that way. Hope it doesn't give me any trouble .

I’ve never bought a warranty with the intention of it helping with resale. People will treat an extended warranty like an aftermarket part and not pay you any extra $$$ just because it has it. A dealer certainly won’t give you any extra on trade in
With that said I didn’t buy the YES. It’s a Yamaha, it don’t need a warranty.

Hey, the voting so far is a lot closer than I thought: 16 vs 13. But 'NO' is still winning .

I'm officially considering buying it due to the price ($465, or about $120/yr), BUT it's far from certain at this point. I asked the manager for the entire contract, since I couldn't find anything online. If the contract is not 'exclusionary', meaning it just says what's not covered (rather than what is), I'd probably pass. Also need to know amount of deductible (if any), transfer fee (if any), any pro-rations (if any), and any other exclusions besides the obvious (wear items, etc). I'd only buy it if it covers the same as the original warranty, with no deductible (or very little), and no pro-rations. Hopefully the transfer fee is small too. The other concern for those buying it elsewhere is if your local dealer would be there for you. Nobody has posted with a testimonial yet; only owners who bought it. At any rate, I should make my decision tomorrow. These contracts can be very deceiving, so hopefully I can get my hands on it, to scrutinize it, and I'd post here what I found, and what I decided. Thank you again for all the replies . $465 for a manufacturer-backed warranty from your local dealer that gives you 4 extra years of factory coverage and you’re hemming and hawing? With the amount of worry you’ve shown thus far in this thread—you need it! Walk in there, close your eyes, and swipe your card.

$465 for a manufacturer-backed warranty from your local dealer that gives you 4 extra years of factory coverage and you’re hemming and hawing? What the hell are you talking about? We were just discussing if it was worth it or not. And to the majority of us who said 'NO' (so far), myself included, it was not worth it, so we didn't buy it. And if you had bothered to read the entire thread, you'd have noticed I said my warranty was over since September 18, so can't buy it even if I wanted (I don't). Therefore, you just attacked me for no reason, and ruined the thread in the process, so not interested in reading your garbage anymore. Ignored.

Pretty much any thread you start is already ruined, and you seem to ruin a lot of OTHER people's threads when you make an appearance.

A local R1 rider had an engine failure last year and Yamaha refused to honor his YES policy. That sucks! I wouldn't pay for it.

I did and normally I don't. As well it's a great thing if you sell or trade in before it's expired. That gives a definite edge in resale.

If I was buying anything used I would definitely be inclined to buy a used vehicle that still had a factory warranty. It may not add value to the seller but it sure does help a buyer decide on which to buy. If you put two bikes side by side, same fatures same price but one still had coverage under warranty which would you choose?

My warranty is expiring in a couple of weeks and keep getting letters to extend the warranty. My one experience with an extended warranty (car) was awful so I'm considering this with caution.
When I bought the bike, they offered an extended warranty for a good price, but I declined. The offer direct from Yamaha is a lot more (4 years $751).
I have 3,500 miles on it and runs great with no issues, but the idea of this engine grenading or the ECU cooking leaves me a little uneasy. Did anyone ever call Yamaha to see if they could negotiate a better deal on four years?
I doubt the dealer would wanna revisit this almost a year later.

You can ALWAYS try to negotiate a better deal if you haven't bought anything. I recommend first giving your preferred dealer a chance, for obvious reasons. But I'd use somebody else's quote and ask them to match it, like many of us did successfully. Rather than just ask for a lower price without proof somebody else got it. You could always do that too... but expect a rejection . As far as 'extended waranties' (they're just service contracts), I found only Yamaha on bikes, and Ford on cars, back theirs up themselves, so I wouldn't worry about defaults. However, remember a tune would most likely void the powertrain, so if you plan to do that, it'd make it a lot less attractive. At the end, I decided not do pay for it, even though my bike will stay stock. Very few issues, and only 2 or 3 engine failures... which we'd never know the details, so might have not been Yamaha's fault at all. Who knows. Plus I hate using dealers anyway (unless I absolutely have to), and don't use the bike much (3K miles now), don't abuse the bike, and didn't have any issues before the year was over (other than a CEL for a misadjusted EXUP cable I fixed myself), so hard to justify, even though the price was quite reasonable. I'm not the gambling type at all, but the odds of having a serious issue are so little I couldn't justify it at the end. Good luck.

No. Extended warranties are waste of money. Google it.

I have to disagree with the comment that an extended warranty is a waste of money. The YES warranty saved me a bundle on my FJR1300 when I had problems with the shifter gear cogs. I just got a brand new engine installed in my 2017 F-150 under extended warranty with 60,000 miles. The new engine has an additional 100 mile warranty. For less than $500, it's worth it just for the peace of mind.

It's a ford. You need it. There's no comparison to Japanese quality.
