So I had an old iPhone 5s with a pushed in power button. So I bought this amazon link off amazon so I had a USB under the seat $9.99 and used a few zip ties and wired it direct to the battery. I don't think it will kill the motorcycle battery as I ride almost every day. If its a problem ill wire it on a ignition wire. I now have pretty accurate GPS to where my MT-10 is. It picks up WiFi Hotspots for now. There about every 1/8 mile around here for 200 miles (optimum online) No cellular as of now. Well if you have iPhone you know how it works. I also found out why my seat was kinda loose. The front right grommet was off. Luckily it was still wedged under the seat just about to be lost forever. I think the dealer did this as I never removed the seat since day one.

You have a fuse in there, right? Is that what that cylindrical piece is?

I would highly recommend you remove the phone from your bike, cell phone batteries can and do fail, sometimes in catastrophic fashion and the resulting LiPo fire will likely burn your whole bike to the ground. Not to mention cell phones (especially smartphones) are not designed to be left in extreme heat for long durations which can result in a battery failure. There are better and safer options for adding GPS and theft deterrents to your bike.

I use LiPo batteries in all my Rc cars and have yet to see one catch fire unless punctured or under extreme heat. I don't think it being mounted on top of the stock 12v battery is in an extreme heat location. but thanks for the warning.

I don't think it being mounted on top of the stock 12v battery is in an extreme heat location. but thanks for the warning. Again, I can't stress enough on how dangerous this is. The older any battery gets the more unstable it becomes and the likelihood of failure increases. Phones simply are not designed to be left out in open heat constantly, they can and do often overheat. And aside from the phone lets also point out that you have it on your bike's battery so if your phone battery does have a catastrophic failure it will be on your other battery and the chances that it could cause it to also fail in a catastrophic manner. And forgive me, but your experience with RC cars does not make you an expert in batteries. You should research thermal runaway before you simply try and dismiss my warnings out of hand.

Hey lotus25, so, the purpose of your trick is to monitor your MT-10 for security purposes? Do you remove the iPhone before riding your bike?
Neat trick but there could be safety issue; as have been pointed out by techsniffer, thermal runway.
However, I think if you are storing/parking your bike @ night, your trick may be a good solution to use your iPhone as a security system.
Why I say may be a good solution: 1. Your motorcycle battery is active to charge your iPhone but it will not dissipate much heat 2. Your iPhone, once, it’s fully charge, will stop draining power of your motorcycle battery due to the iPhone’s built-in voltage limiters. So, @ this point, not much heat dissipation going on; therefore, reduce for thermal runway to occur.
CAVEAT: This is under the assumption, that your motorcycle battery, your iPhone battery, your USB charger and your iPhone’s built-in voltage limiters are stable or functional.
