Hey guys just joined so hello, I know this is a dated thread, i bought a mt-10 couple of weeks ago , used i may add. Anyway i did notice second time out the smell of coolant, on closer inspection i noticed mines leaking from from the o-ring. I fancy fitting a higher temprature o-ring and wonderd if anyone had an original o-ring for size dimentions ?

My 2016 Mt10 has done 8200 miles, and has started to leak from one of the o rings. Yamaha dealer says the part is £5 but they need to remove loads of bits like headers etc to do the job. I'm going to ask if the o ring replacements are better quality. Bit crap really.

I had my o ring fixed yesterday and had the bike serviced at the same time. I'm now £368 worse off! The dealer said they've done a few of these. Obviously poor quality part!

Got the same leak at 7500 mi. Had a weird smell two years ago, then parked the bike for almost a year and a half when I was working overseas. I went to start it and boom, actual leak is found. Off to fix it.
We have a support group forming here.

I'll be sure to keep an eye on mine. Only at 300 miles on my '19 so far.

So, I changed out the oring last night without major disassembly. Removing front wheel and oil cooler gave me access to remove the flange and change out the oring. I will make a video since this is so common to these bikes and there is nothing on YouTube.

Video is a summary. I thought about it after I was done. I did take few pics during the process and will post here once I figure out how.

Hi all , bringing this thread back for 2022. I need to replace this exact O-ring on my bike as well before the season starts here in Canada. Has anyone found a higher quality gasket for this replacement ?

The part is listed in the quote above. Found this thread when my 2017 just started leaking coolant yesterday, at ~47800 miles. I guess got lucky for a while? 😁 Now I just have to wait for a whole week to get the gasket in..

Maybe a sticky for this issue RedandBlack? That's not a bad idea, Maybe oskarz28 you want to make a separate thread with your video and pics and maybe some extra details and I'll make a sticky post in Tech Tips section?

What size wrenches/sockets or Allen's are needed to complete the job? Anyone know?

Hi All, just reading through the thread (which has been a massive help - So thanks) as I started my 2019 MT-10 yesterday and found a few drips on the floor. Closer inspection has shown the exact issue as this thread.
Question - Has anyone found the bolts on the flange too tight and snap when being removed (with it being so close to the headers), as this is my only fear of attempting the job myself.
I’ve ordered the parts and will give it a go, but the dealer has told me ‘worse case’ that if these bolts and any of the header bolts snap (this needs to be removed if the flange bolts go) then we could be looking at a pretty penny!!

A trick I used as a lineman on seized equipment on the Oregon coast, lots of salt air. I always tightened the bolt just a smidge then loosened just a bit. Would work this back and forth a few times before loosening all the way. This breaks any corrosion or seizure that has occurred. Again don’t wrench it too hard when tightening I would say about a 1/16th of an inch then back off the same. Do this a few times and you should be good to back it off when you feel it breaking free.

So I just called the dealership and explained what is wrong with the bike. That an o-ring for the water pump that is behind the headers has failed/cracked.
My warranty is good for another year but they say they don't cover anything considered a wearable.
I would say that this is NOT considered a wearable as I don't think It was ever intended for us to change out this O-ring, which is evidenced by the fact that the original o-ring has been replaced on the newer versions of the bike and also since it is not mentioned in the owner's manual under the maintenance intervals section.
The guy is giving me shit, saying he will need to see the bike in order to figure out whats wrong with it and to say wether the warranty will cover it or not. I told him there is no "figuring out" anything as I know exactly what is wrong with it. He is going to call me back but What are your guys' thoughts on this? AM I right?
IF, I was to do this myself which im very nervous about doing, Is the headers coming off an absolute necessity? It seems id have to remove the entire exhaust in order to remove the headers..... This terrifies me

This terrifies me This is 100% NOT a wearable. Wearables are things like brakes, tires etc. This should be covered. Also exhaust removal isn't that bad. The catalytic converter comes off with a few bolts. the nuts holding the headers into the cylinders could be tough but since it still has a warranty they shouldn't be that rusted yet.
