A friend of mine rode the FZ today and grabbed a bit too much front brake when creeping in my driveway and laid it over. Honestly not much damage, just on the exhaust shield and what I thought was the crank case. Can anyone identify the part I need to order? It’s the ignition side of the bike - The cover that says “CP4”. See link below - I think it’s part #18, but it’s hard to tell from the wrong angle as they’re showing, and also I question it because it looks like there’s a bolt that goes straight through the center on the drawing. Any help is appreciated. www.babbittsonline.com/oemparts/a/yam/5762d2d087a86610f0f77662/crankcase-cover-1

Yup, that appears to be correct. That's the oil pump.
Did you consider just putting a protective cover over it?

I definitely considered that, but I’m weird about making sure everything is perfect. And I’m not footing the bill so I definitely want to do it right. This is why you only should only be friends with responsible people haha. I wonder how much labor is involved with that. I’m assuming if it’s the oil pump, then I’m gonna have to have the shop do it, drain the fluids, re-fill/clean up the huge mess.

The only people I let ride my bike are the ones who do the annual inspection, or if a mechanic needs to diagnose something. I would definitely recommend a pair of engine sliders for the future. I have SW-Motech.

I just don’t really care that much because he’s one of my best friends and I know he’s good for it. He felt so bad, but I just told him to forget it. The way I look at it, it’s just stuff. It can be fixed. He’s been riding for years so I figured it’d be fine and it wasn’t haha. Oh well

Thats why you shouldn't use the front brake in low speed situations...so much more control using the rear. If you grab the front at all with the wheel turned you are asking to lay the bike down. You are a good friend, i'd be super pissed but then again no one rides my bike except me lol

He's been riding for years, so I had to give him the old "Come on, man. I know you know better than that." Its really not that noticeable, like at all. I still haven't ordered the parts because I don't think I'm gonna change out the oil pump cover until I change the oil next (less mess), but I guess I should go ahead and get on that.
