Any idea of the history? Has the ECU been flashed? Fuel tuner installed? Exhaust? Air filter?

Welcome to the forum! start with the simplest of things, check the idle and make sure it's optimal and you could even check the air filter. 3k is early for an air filter but animals and insects sometimes get into them when the bikes sit or some dirty environments can clog up air filters quick.
Like kratos said, we'd have to get a little more history on this bike and what has been changed on it to give more solid recommendations.

Try to get some history on the bike. But first things first. The obvious first step is to drain old fuel, get fresh one, and ride it for a few dozen miles. If problem persists, then I suspect a bad tune or some other modification gone wrong, but could be a defect. The risk you run not knowing what was done to the bike is a huge diagnostic bill if you try to get it covered under warranty, and turns out it was a tune, or some other crap done by previous owner. That's why I don't like buying used vehicles. But the rare time I do that, it's only from original owners, who can tell me the entire history of the vehicle. If there's something to hide, most owners just trade it in, and make it somebody else's problem. Hope you don't have to learn such a lesson the hard way. Good luck, and keep us posted. Hopefully just bad fuel.

If it does have a fuel tuner, the easiest place to start may be just verifying that the throttle position sensor is calibrated. I know the Power Commander has this feature, not sure about other fuel tuners.
If it does have an aftermarket air filter, that will tell you that someone else has had the tank up or off. May be the first area to check if none of the above suggestions work out.

hey thanks for all the feedback, bike is bone stock except for a few bolt ons , stock exhaust, does have the oxford hand warmers taller screen, bag mounts , ran at least 4 tanks of fuel with no problems. bike came from an older gentleman in his 70's . changes bike like i do my underwear , and a stickler with record keeping . .hoping maybe was some bad gas.. may have to try and reach out to him though..

If it is running rough a couple of things come to mind: 1. the throttle bodies are out of sync, or 2. a bad plug or plug coil. Unless you are handy with tools and have the equipment you will probably have to have a dealer look at it for diagnosis.

Try running some Seafoam through it.
May just be a dirty injector.

oh boy, i finally got around to doing some tinkering and behold i found the problem. seems the older gentleman who owned the bike before me never reattached the positive terminal back on the battery after installing the tender and the handwarmer connections... positive connector was just lying on top under the cover apparently providing just enough juice to cause some intermittent issues,.. seems good now , just hoping no electronic issues from here on out.. battery is fully charged ...thanks for everyones participation...
