So about 2 weeks ago i went and bought an 18 MT-10, sorry for not introducing myself, have only ridden R6 for the last 12 years and i loved my Akra full exhaust i had, now im wanting to get the same for this bike however, i was wondering if anyone knew the the difference as far as performance goes between the full system vs the slip on and mid pipe option, i was leaning toward the full, but i believe the headers are stainless steel so isn't that what the stock headers are? Any help would be appreciated.

blakbearWelcome to the forum. Choose whatever exhaust you can aford. But honestly, I know a lot of guys who put stock exhaust back on. They did this because loud exhaust announces to every cop in a five block radius that you are speeding and where you are. All of my speeding tickets on a bike have come from cops who heard me a block or so away and came after me. Either way, if it's more power you are after, our Vendor 2wheeldynoworks can flash your ECU and get you from your current 133 hp up to 150 HP. The american fz-10 is detuned slower than the MT-10's that the rest of the world has. 2wdw is the very best bike Tuner I know and they have a huge board on this very forum full of reviews. A related question: How exactly was our bike detuned, and why? I read somewhere that it was due to noise regulations, which doesn't make sense since Europe is worse, by all accounts. But if that was the reason, the only way that'd make sense to lower noise with the same exhaust system would be lower rpm. What's Europe's redline? If it's the same, then that makes no sense. But whatever was done to our bike, does anybody know? The easiest way would be to restrict air (butterfly not opening 100% with 100% throttle), but might be another method. Just curious of the details. Hopefully somebody know. Thx.

So it was detuned by reducing rpm? What's the redline in the US and Europe? If redlines are the same, it has to be something else, no? At any rate, the stock can is straight-thru, so any slip-on can't be too loud, which is exactly what I'm looking for. I also don't want to get rid of the cat, since I'm done having to wash my riding clothes after every ride due to awful fuel smell. I'm leaning towards the Graves slip-on, which can get the decal removed, for a stock look. And it looks OEM due to no band or springs. Bike sounds awesome with even midpipe and slip-on, but way too loud for my tastes.

If its anything like what they did to the R1, They are restricted via the ECU and the throttle to meet sound emission restrictions. So say you get to 10k RPMs with the throttle fully engaged at 100 %, the ECU is restricted to only read this at say 30 % throttle. So even though you have the throttle fully pulled back, electronically with the fly by wire throttle, the bike is being limited as if you only had the throttle open at 30 %
An ECU flash removes these restrictions and most will also adjust the fuel mapping as well.
