Is intermittent backfiring on deceleration normal? Bike is 100% stock except for the seat. Doesn't do it all the time and it's a very small pop when it happens. The bike runs excellent otherwise, loft the front wheel at will!

Yes, that's normal. Mine also does it. It's a result of the ais system injecting air into the exhaust for emissions control.

Yep, totally normal. I kind of like it personally.

You can get block off plates to eliminate it but if I remember correctly, removing the AIS motor causes a check engine light for some reason on these bikes. So you have to either leave the motor connected and just remove the piping or get an ECU Flash.

Ahh I’m not sure that is normal. My bike has never done that. Maybe others could chime in..

Go full throttle and then abruptly cut the throttle, it'll backfire. Unless you bought your bike used and you have block off plates on it.

No, bought brand new. Never gone full throttle and cut the throttle quickly on the road, probably why. Thanks.

Thanks so much for all the replies! This puts my mind at ease, This thing is a beast and I'd hate to take apart something that runs this good for no reason..

I like the little pop and growl on deceleration. I didn’t hear it much with the stock can, but it is more pronounced with the slip-on tip. I’ve learned how to play with the throttle a bit during decel when I really want to maximize that bit of awesomeness from the exhaust.

Yep, totally normal. I kind of like it personally. I'll double-down on you; my FZ-10 back fires only on acceleration, and spits on deceleration - way cool.
