I'm coming off of a ZRX 1100. The engine took a crap on me, but I didn't take crap on it so I'm building another one for it. With my work schedule it's going to take a little bit, so I'm going to get a fz10 so I have something to ride if this project takes longer than expected. Plus I just love it and have since inception. My question for the collective is, are there any Tall Riders out there? Experiences? Mods? I'm six foot six inches(198cm) with a 36 inch inseam. I might be 220 pounds with gear if I'm describing myself before a fight. I realize that whatever I get will have to be modded, that's why I like naked bikes. I modded the ZRX to fit me and I'm pretty sure I can do the MT/FZ the same, but I want to get any feedback possible for I am running out of material to read(time for an owners manual I suppose) and my go to site cycle-ergo.com/ doesn't list the machine in question. Yes I prefer the armor grey, lol

Yep, I measure up the same as you, I'm quite leggy tho so therein might be a difference. Mods on my 10 so far have been the touring screen, keeps air off my chest but my helmet in clean air. Grip puppies on the bars, I find the thin grips make my hands ache after a while. Rolled the bars forward a touch so they don't foul the screen or tank for a little extra reach. The comfort seat as it adds about an inch in height. Changed the oe footpegs for Gilles California superbike school pegs, more comfortable now the knobbly bit on the end has gone and for my recent trackday I removed the pillion pegs as my heel was catching when my toes were on the pegs I've also had the rear shock rebuilt as the oe is a bit harsh and the weight we are is the top end of the oe spring

Thanks for the reply Biglee. Your mods almost mirror mine on my Rex, so this is a big vote of confidence for me. This will be my first new bike purchase. Still have the willys, lol.
From my reading I'm sure my size 13 will rub the rear pegs. Hopefully I'll get a trackday in sometimes. Man I admire you guys.
Comfort seat it is. I already don't have much cushion back there, lol.
Nice tip on the shock spring rate as well. Having the rear shock rebuilt sounds more economical than the Penskes๐ฎ I run Bitubos(piggy back) on the Rex and they make a night and day difference. Granted they were 16 year old shocks, so the difference probably is a no brainier, but the Bitubos do have more adjustability.
I likey suspension mods!
Got DANG, Giles sure are proud of those pegs! Excellent looking piece though. Don't seem as bulky as other/cheaper adjustable pegs I've seen.

Normal road riding my feet, a UK 12, weren't touching the pillion pegs but only for more aggressive track riding.

Looking good bought it? Thanks man! I sure did. That pic was taken right before we loaded it on the trailer. I never figured that a box stock bike would fit me so well. I did rotate the bars, but that's it.

Excellent it is a pain getting bikes that fit when you're our size, many times when looking at bikes I wished I was 8 inches shorter! Grab a comfort seat as well, worth it imo

Aaaaaaaaargh I can relate. 4 hour rides take a toll but my seat concepts arrives tomorrow and I have high hopes! I've heard of durability issues with the comfort seat and the price turned me off of the Corbin seat so I decided on seat concepts. I'll keep ya informed if the seat concepts is any better!

I'll keep ya informed if the seat concepts is any better! I can dig it. Hey leave a comment or two on the seat height as well if you don't mind. I'm real curious about that. I sure could use another half inch or so.

Totally different direction, however tall guys like yourself are very comfortable on a Vic Vision.
Vic is not made anymore so you may be able to pick one up for a good price.
I traded mine for the FZ10, but at 5'10" I could not reach the full length of the long floorboards on the Vision. Great bike over all....just not enough fun for me.

Jeesh! That machine looks like a couch. I bet you had some great touring times on that machine. I see they are readily available for nice prices. The 10 has me locked in for a few thousand miles/dollars though. Thanks for sharing!
Btw, what kind of milage did you get out of her?

The 860lb Vision was comfortable with electric adjustable windscreen, heated seats and grips along with cruise control and stereo. I averaged 44mpg. What it didn't do for me was get the adrenaline pumping.

I sure could use another half inch or so. Installed the seat and it is about a half inch taller. The real game changer is the fact that it moves you back on the seat and almost cups you there. With the stock seat I was always sliding up against the tank and this one prevents it as the back of the seat almost seems to be lower (included an image that kind of shows it). This helps immensely I'm about 6' 4 and riding the -10 for over 3+hrs non-stop would start to make my knees start to become sore and I'm only 20 years old! I was expecting the foam to be a tad softer than it is but in my opinion the SC seat is worth it just for the improved shape. Not nearly as sore after my 4hr ride today.

Nice update. Seems like that would be a damn nice seat. if you only ran for 4 hours, I don't believe it's a hundred percent broken in yet. Sounds like a winner. It also looks proper on the 10 as well. I'm definitely leaning that way or comfort seat. I think I like the Corbin gunfighter, but for 500 bucks I'm going to need custom indentions for each hair on the crack of my ass. No disrespect to Corbin. They make nice things. At 41, my knees usually are fine on the 10 but my lower back gets me at certain positions for lengthyi-sh rides. Lower pegs are good for knees I've found over the years, but they kind of hinder you a little bit in the corners. I have yet to track any bike I've owned so that doesn't bother me too much. However, I drag a toe here and there if I'm not riding on the balls of my feet like I'm supposed to. I wish the 10 was on cycle-ergo.com/ That's my go-to website, and in my short 11 year, 4 machine, street bike experience I've found them to be pretty accurate.

The comfort seat as it adds about an inch in height. Hey Big Lee, was that "about an inch" closer to the inch side you think or just noticably taller?

Me too. But I'm certain the FZ/MT (they're the same, correct?) is much ergo-friendly than the others I was considering. My other finalist was the Triumph Street Triple RS, which just by looking at it you can tell was more aggressive everywhere. At 56, my knees bother me a lot more, so anything higher than the MT would probably be intolerable in a long ride. I also like riding aggressively in the twisties, but feel the MT is the perfect compromise for me. Might have to slow down a little maybe 1 or 2% of the time I ride, but the other 98% should be more enjoyable. At least I hope so. If I can't take even the MT ergos, then I'll be in trouble. He he. What I'll do on this bike (or any other) is start standing up on the pegs early on rides, to lengthen the time before knee discomfort (if any) kicks in. Can't wait to get back on a bike.

Comfort seat โ๏ธ Corbin seat. Decisions decisions. Then there's the Seat Concepts. My bum is burning and I can't decide. Aaaaaaaaargh I just got a comfort seat and it's a little higher than stock, it will increase the leg room some and it is a big improvement over the stock seat, I bought mine from Babbits online, and used a code in the best price thread for some additional savings, shipped it was $260. I put some Velcro felt at the front corners where it interfaces with the tank and where some have had wear issues. I know most people like the Seat Concepts seat and it is the lowest price of the ones I've looked at. I rode my bike 250 miles and felt good after the ride, plus you'll be stopping for fuel often enough to stretch.
