I’m flashed by 2WDW. This last trip, I averaged about 37mpg (indicated) over 400 miles. I was focusing on keeping it in high gears and not ripping on it (unfamiliar roads) because I get paranoid about running out of fuel.
On a prior long trip, I ran out of fuel at 130 miles. This is riding it like how I normally ride unfamiliar roads.
When I ride roads that I know, I’m not sure about the mileage, but my buddies tell me that they can smell fuel when they’re behind me.
For commuting, I get about 33-34 mpg.

I'm flashed with cat delete and aftermarket air filter hardly getting 20 mpg based on my calculations. I also don't drive like grandma. Thread is starting to make me think we’re alone lol. Or we got lemons. I’m going with the non-grandma idea.

Our tuner just probably enriched fuel mix more than others

No doubt—just being funny. I don’t fly thru traffic, filtering like a jackass and doing double the speed limit. But boy I dig wheelie’ing out of corners on my 9 mile trip to work. I’ve mapped out the most corners to get from home to the office and it’s a blast. That said, it does make me question it if I ever decided to actually ‘tour’ on her. Also looking to send my ECU for flashing to 2wdw sooner than later...but it’s SO damn hard to park the MT-10 for that long!

I got mine flashed by 2WDW last year. I don’t obsess over mpg. My average is in the low 30’s with a lot of commuting. I’m usually looking for gas by about 110 miles and rarely fit more than 3.5 gallons in her. One thing I can count on is a big smile and a light front wheel every ride. The flash really improved the throttle response and well worth the $$. If you are worried about distance and mpg you are probably on the wrong, bike,or just need another one for sensible days, and the FZ/MT for when the voices make you do bad things!😈

I had mine flashed by a chap here in Australia, if anything my economy has improved. As long as I'm not too hard on the gas, I can get an easy 220 klms, so around 130 miles in your money.

Vstate60,
I grandma-ed it today for a stretch on the highway still cruising at a good clip and was able to get 110 miles before filling up. I pumped 4.25 gallons back in. So it would seem I got 25.88 miles per gallon which was mostly highway. Never got a fuel light per say...the last bar on the indicator just started flashing around 85 miles on trip odometer.

I disconnected the o2s and even babying it, short shifting into 3rd/4th in the hills, its still getting only 22. Before the flash this would get 30 . It must be rich everywhere. oh well... it is smoother but there's still some off/on jerk I'm guessing since the main complaint was jerky throttle, they focused on that and everyone's already accepted poor MPG, so dyno hours didn't go towards that possibly unattainable goal for a one size fits all deal.

Hey Dan, if you need your range (like I do), you should try going back to stock and installing a 'throttle tamer', which is a tube that changes the 'mapping' of the throttle, by making it less aggressive initially, and more aggressive later, basically leaving the same distance from closed to WOT. Fortunately, I don't need it, since I got used to very precise throttle control over the decades, with my super touchy BMW bikes. This one is about the same, but I have to use it in STD mode, AND always covering the front brakes with 2 fingers, not only for quicker reaction, but to lever my hand and avoid 'hunting'. If you don't do that, it's going to jerk like crazy on broken pavement. Sometimes it does it a little, when really bad. But 95%+ of the time, I'm perfectly smooth.
On many of my last rides in the Hill Country, I made it back deep into reserve. I can't afford to lose any range. Any 'tune' will lose range, since it smooths the throttle by adding fuel; no way around that. Hope this helps.

As soon as I get a chance I’ll give it a shot. I honestly don’t fill the ‘neck’ of the tank up most times and think of the low fuel light/ flashing bottom marker as another reason not to take off if I get blue lights behind me. Wish someone on the forum lived in Orlando and wanted to ride and/or I really need to get a go pro to document the fun! Best bike I’ve ever owned or ridden, bar none.

I know about the G2 throttle tamer but I doubt it'll completely fix the jerky throttle. Even in rain mode I can still feel it, so slowing the opening of the plates isn't a total fix. Even after the flash it's still not carb-smooth but its a lot more manageable on tight turns now.

be nice if people mentioned average speeds too. its easy to assume most of you, and this is not a knock on anyone, but you arent rolling around at 85+ mph. bone stock no flash im getting 28 on average according to the odo. i do roll around at 85+ but thats maybe because in my state most people drive and ride way over the speed limit in general. either way good insight on the flash tune, i didnt get the bike to not be a hooligan so i guess ill just have to bite the bullet lol

I didn’t buy this bike to commute on daily but commuting part time was part of the reasoning behind my purchase. I’ve never owned a bike that got such horrible gas mileage and I’ve owned a bunch. The trolls on Facebook tell me to suck it up and “it’s a 1000 perfectly normal” but it’s not. I’ve owned a RSV4 that got better mileage, 2 RC51’s that got better mileage and 3 different 1400cc Harleys that got better mileage. My buddy has a RC8 that gets 45+ mpgs and he doesn’t grandma it around. I love the bike but 100 miles to a tank is absurd

So it’s really starting to sound like the fuel consumption is actually improving with a flash/tune—the issue folks are having after flashing is not removing the O2 sensors. Am I right?

I had a flash back in 2017 when the bike was 6months old. MPG dropped giving me about 80 miles to a tank and the bike was horrible. Result of going to a cheap tuner over reliable trusted one.
As something was way off and I wasn't happy with the tuners response I went to someone highly recommended in the UK. This saw the bike run so much better and a range seeing me looking for fuel at about 120 with an avg of 35mpg. This seems to be standard for most MT owners.
In that time I've messed with the bike seeing what it can do including a long ass trip up a motorway (freeway). I just sat at 72mph on cruise and pulled an avg of 54mpg and 160 miles. Filled it up and it took 15.8l (17l tank) so think it would have been good for 180miles but that would have been close 😳.
I've also been a bit of a hooligan and this obviously sees the economy drop drastically.
I do find that the general rideout's with quick flowing roads is where the happy medium is returning smiles and miles.
Recently I swapped bikes with a mate who had just had his MT10 tuned and the difference between ours was noticeable. His was so much smoother off the throttle and felt so much more controlled.
I got back in touch with the chap who did my bike and he told me he had developed the map (some 18months after I had it down by him properly). This was a result of a significant number of custom Dyno tunes allowing him to fine tune the off the shelf map.
I sent my ECU back to him and my bike is lik silk now. I also run a G2 throttle tamer and it's almost carb like.
The down side is that my AVG is down to 31mpg and I'm looking for a fuel station at 100 miles instead of 120.
Initially I was happier with the smoothness and better pull but now I'm kind of wishing I'd kept it as it was (which was way better than stock) with the better mpg.
This all said I've never had bike the stirs the soul quite like this one.

If ever a model needed more fuel capacity! Shame they didnt use these giant aluminum frame sections to store some fuel! These bikes with 7 gallon total capacity when needed? Would be awesome! I got spoiled on my Tracer 9gt which I have honestly done 250 miles on one tankful ...and not even totally babying it either! Sure I dont get that playing in the mountains but touring while hitting as many curvey routes as we can fit in it really does get 50mpg....I am curious what I will get doing the same routes with the same buddies while using my brand new 23 MT-10 instead....I am hesitant to sell my Tracer just yet! But MAN do I love riding the 10 in the twisties! Makes me feel like a MotoGP racer! And yet it's still pretty comfy!

I geared up my 2019 using the 2022 model rear sprocket. With the flash, cruising top gear around 60-80, I got as high as 39mpg, but never below 30 unless I'm really caning the shit out of it.

I'm flashed with Chris Moore's tune from Moore Mafia and I tend to ride in a "spirited" manner. Averaging 28MPG LOL.
