Hi guys Have had my mt10 for about 2 weeks now and love it. My question is, how hot do your bikes run and how after you stop riding does the engine stay hot for. Mine has now been in the garage for 2 hours as is just cool enough to touch. Thoughts?

Yes mine seems to get hot fast, only had it since October, so not used it in summer yet, and the fan was always cutting in, i had the ecu flashed and had the fan cut in early at 90 degrees, i think but can't remember exactly.

Just the opposite, I find the -10 runs very cool. I find it always in the 160 to 170 F (71 to 77 C) range when moving, I'm not concerned how hot it is when I finish my ride. The pipes and muffler cool down quickly, the rest will cool at a natural rate. Like your mama taught you, don't touch a hot stove.

It runs cool when moving — typically in the range of 160-180F. It gets very hot, very quickly in stop-and-go traffic, though — regularly above 220F. The highest temp I’ve seen is 230F. It also cools back down pretty quickly once moving above 50mph again. I haven’t checked how long it takes to cool down once parked, but I would expect it to take a few hours.
Like owle, I’ve only had it since October, so haven’t ridden it yet when air temperatures are high. Phoenix AZ.

Coming from celsius territory the temperature conversions correspond to what you have stated. Down here we are just leaving summer, air temps have been over 100° Fahrenheit or 40° celsius a fair bit lately. Fan cuts in at 105° celsius or 220° Fahrenheit, motor will only cool down when you are coasting. Like most motorcycles the FZ/MT10's don't like stop-start traffic.

The catalytic converter holds alot of heat as well as unnecessary weight. I noticed a large difference when I did mine. You'll want to change fuel map also. Otherwise, you get alot of popping and barking during deceleration.

I just did a long run today in our first warm day this spring, 84 deg F ambient temperature, engine coolant was at 167 deg F (+/- 2 deg) at speeds up to 80 mph. I don't do much traffic riding but it will pop up to 214 or so in these conditions. But I never consider the heat thrown off by the engine to be an issue, I had an early edition FJR and that motor would cook your legs and nether region. Heat management on the -10 is fine for me, no issues.

Mine has now been in the garage for 2 hours as is just cool enough to touch. Thoughts? I've had my Zed-10 since June 17. It ran 177°-189°, while moving and shot upto 230. In stop/traffic. After doing the decat/fuel module, it runs 130°-167 moving. Haven't seen over 197° stopped more than 2-3 times, after really hammering on it. Although the ol' gooch tends to get a bit warm on longer excursions. As far as I'm concerned, that's to be expected when you've got that much power in between your knees.

I've ridden the bike in desert weather already so I've seen the extremes. The bike seems to keep fairly cool even at high RPM as long as its moving. I think 205-215 is a normal moving temperature in the desert. When you stop, I've seen the temperature creep up to 225 and I've seen it creep up over 230 when you turn off the engine and the fan stops. But I've never been concerned at this. It still runs cooler than my track back which I run out in the desert and I see between 220-235 usually. I experimented with engine ice on that bike, didn't do a damn thing but increase temps. OEM coolant runs the coolest on that bike so I've become skeptical about any coolant products that claim to reduce temps.
To give you guys an idea, about 260-265 degrees is where oil really looses its viscosity and you likely start to do damage to the engine. Coolant at a 50-50 mix will start to boil at like 225 but pressure of the system increases the boiling point. I've read the actual boiling point can increase to 270. So as long as your coolant system is acting normally, I wouldn't be worried about any of the temperatures listed in this thread. They all fall within normal. My gauge of holy shit has usually been about 245 degrees.

Forgot to add earlier, if you really want to have some fun with temps, buy one of those 20.00 laser temprature guns. I went around on day on my old Ducati and listed everything from the spark plug leads to the chain after a good ride in 90 degree heat.
