Hi all my cruise control has suddenly stopped working for several days.
Checked the brake and clutch levers that have two clicks when u pull on them to disengage the cruise so it's working fine. Also I do know that cruise only works 4-6 gear at speed. The cruise light is on, but I'm unable to set speed or resume. I've also cleaned my side stand switch. Rear brake lights don't come on so early so I'm guessing it can't be that (not sure how to check the cruise sensor for rear brake).
Any help would be appreciated. If DIY with pics or video post would be great. I don't know what else could be wrong unless the set and resume switch is spoiled? But it's only been 16000km or roughly 10000miles in my bike.

Are you still under warranty? I would take it to the dealer and have them check and clear any faults. I don't have any personal experience in this but I've read other users say that even stored faults may cause the bike to act in weird ways that require them being cleared by the dealer. For example, if you run the bike on a rear stand (to lube or clean the chain) that can cause a sensor fault with the moving wheel. So even after you bring the bike down from the stand and the fault goes away, the stored fault can cause these types of issues.
I would definitely try this before you start replacing switches.

It's Solved, there is a spring sensor on rear brake infront of the pump. After washing bike or riding alot in rain it tends to get stuck and doesn't retract fully which deactivates cruise. Just spray abit of lube or wd40 onto it pump rear brake to get it smooth and cruise works again.

Thanks for this, just starting to have this cruise control issue at 30,000 km’s, definitely give this a shot.

Love it when high tech issues are solved with low tech solutions!!

A year ago, when my MT had 13,000km on it, the cruise control was having lockout problems & wouldn't turn on. I played around adjusting the brakes but it still happened. It was under warranty and my dealer replaced the front brake light switch. No problems after that.

Just spray abit of lube or wd40 onto it pump rear brake to get it smooth and cruise works again. I had a similar problem. From my bike having sat for three years before I bought it the rear brake was partially seized. it caused an intermittent cruise control problem just like yours.

Just had the same issue arise out of nowhere. Cruise Control always came on but would not set; It was intermittent. Cleaned and lubed brake switches to no avail.
Turned out to be the clutch switch had dirty contacts after 12.5k miles. Cleaned it with isopropyl alcohol and never had the problem again. The service manual has a very lengthy & detailed description in the troubleshooting section for Cruise Control should anyone need info on how the system works and what it looks for to function.

Keeping some electrical contact cleaner around is a good idea for things like this and the guy who had his sidestand switch gunked up with chain lube. It’s cheap and I leaves no residue. You can usually find it at any auto parts store.

I found that if I turn the key on, then activate cruise, then start the bike, it works with no issues. I just leave it activated at all times in case I want to use it.
Finding the root cause is a different story. I definitely had an issue with my rear brake light flickering so I adjusted the spring tension. Light seems to be fixed but cruise is not. I can hear all the clicks on both front levers, so I can't imagine the problem is there unless it is in the contact points. Just haven't bothered to take them off/apart yet.

There's an open recall now on the MT-10 for the front brake switch. It causes cruise control problems. Contact your dealer and give them your VIN and see if it's covered

Spray the rear brake master cylinder switch because it sticks sometimes, that did it for me.

I had the same happen with my 2017 SP a week after I bought it in March. In my case the fault was a sticky front brake light switch, the cruise control won't activate if the brake light is on. The switch is screwed onto the bottom of the lever perch on the right bar. Once unscrewed, take a look at the rear brake light and verify that it switches on/off smoothly as you push the switch plunger in/out (from memory, pushed in should switch off, released should switch on). You can also listen for the relay clicking under the seat.
I squirted some electrical contact cleaner into the switch and worked it back and forth until it came right, then followed up with some WD40. Be careful refitting the switch as I recall it sits over a small locating peg and is held in place with the screw. There is a recall from Yamaha to replace these switches as they are known to suffer from internal corrosion, what with shippin delays I still have not had mine replaced (but have it booked in for this Friday) but my brake switch and cruise control has been perfect since I cleaned the switch up (7000km of use).
