Hey gang, I had a thought.. what if you are needing fuel and at the gas station they only have 87 and you will never make it to the next town. Obviously you have to do something.. should I carry a can of octane boost with me if I'm way away from civilization? Will running on 87 just to get you to the next town be bad? What would you do? BTW I ALWAYS run 91 non ethanol.

it can cause knock as it's obviously not good for timing, but in a scenario where you just need to get to the next town and you ride there conservatively i would think you'll be fine. Obviously it's best not to make a habit out of it.

The ECU will adjust for the lower octane, no damage will occur. Power will reduced a little, but no need to worry.

You're ok. I routinely run 90 octane with no issues. I have been forced to run 87 octane and have had no issues.
Modern octane level normally doesn't become an issue until the bike ages a bit.
Like mentioned above, the symptom of too low of an octane level is a knocking of the engine. This is bad and will damage the engine, so if you started hearing it, try to get a higher octane in there as soon as possible.

With the compression rating 92 octane is needed. I'm trading in my mt09 soon is this going to be a problem?

Octane is more of an issue when engine is loaded, so taking easy with lower octane fuels is the way to go. If you're going to hammer it, need 91 in there... and make sure oil is at operating temperature before that as well .
