I mount my Montana on the center portion of the handlebars using a combination of the Garmin bicycle handlebar mount and the AMPS rugged powered mount. I will post a pic a little later today.

Thanks mrhix - that looks like a good spot.
I like the idea of a center mount. I'm 57 and my old eyes will require a placement that is closer to the rider. I have several RAM mount pieces on order. I will definitely try the center mount first.
BTW - tell me about your handguards.

The Crossbar with the Touratech locking mount didn't shake out, so I went with the default RAM mount on the left side of the handlebar - looks like it'll work well. Still not wired up - running it back to the battery and soldering it on the the Gerbings heated gear plug terminals. mtntrails.smugmug.com/Motorcycles/FZz10-Initial-Build/i-nmShjQQ

Here's my setup. Has worked amazing. I like that it's off center cause it replaces one of the handle bars bolts so it allows me to keep my phone out of the way of the HUD. Should also stay put in a crash since it's basically bolted onto the bike. I don't have any pics of it on the bike. But it's not much different than anything posted already. It's just how it's mounted is different than most. It's not pictured but that RAM craddle X grip does come with the rubber piece that you stretch over the edges of your phone for a little added security. That RAM mount is very secure but that extra rubber piece is good insurance in a crash. Edit: Looks like achrista has the same setup as me, check out his pictures below. I still don't have any photos but I've had a number of people PM me to ask for one. Hard to take a photo of your phone in it's mount with your phone. Haha

I’ve been looking at the ram x grip but just from eyeing up the space on the bike it looks like it will block the gauges. The photos of the garmen setup above looks nice but the mount doesn’t look as adaptable for different size phones. Does anyone have recommendations for an easy install set up that doesn’t block the gauges?

I used red and black's method and it blocks none of the gauges.

Installation is easy and flexible. You pop the cap off one of the four handlebar bolts and put the new bolt in to secure the mount. I torqued it to the manual spec. Theball mount system allows you to get the exact angle you want, and the gauge cluster is visible whether the phone is horizontal or vertical. The other benefit of a ball mount system is it can be used to mount other things (cameras) other places (anywhere you can bolt it) assuming Ram makes the appropriate adapter/mount.

I have the X-grip w/a handlebar mount and it doesn't block gauges at all even in portrait orientation. Biggest drawback of it is phone placement in the mount is tricky. Centering the phone in the X-grip results in the upper grip arms pushing on the power button on the right side and the volume-down of the volume rocker button on the left side. So it will either turn off the phone's screen or turn down BT volume on me. Only way to get the phone in the mount is to get it where the grip pushes the volume-up and adjust it just right so it's not constantly pushing the volume-up button. Otherwise I have a constant volume-adjustment notification at the top of my phone's screen. Yea that's the downside of the X grip. I've been putting my phone a little bit more off center and have been able to miss the main buttons with the gaps between the volume buttons and the others, but it's still a pain in the ass . But the off center helps in another way that it allows me more room to get the fingerprint button on the back of the phone to unlock it. I presume you have an Android? How do you keep the constant volume adjustment notification on your screen? Can this be done from lockscreen?

Yup, I have an Android (GS7). The constant volume notification is the unwanted byproduct of the grip constantly pushing down on the volume rocker. I don't know how you'd keep that on there permanently.

I have a pixel 2 and luckily it can be placed in a secure manner slightly off center so the buttons aren't pressed. It was a non issue on my Galaxy s8 (pictured).
However, if you think this might compromise security (I can get the rubber 'net' around my phone when it's not totally centered, which I trust) you could always download an app that temporarily disabled the volume buttons. Not ideal, but it would work.

Cheers, MrHix Are those Powermadd hand guards? Do you remember which mounting kit you used? Thanks in advance.

I use the Quad lock system. It is amazing to put it on and take it off one handed in seconds. I have 2 mounts one for each motorcycle. Put it anywhere on your bars and just simple 1/4 turn it on and its locked into place even at 140+MPH doesnt move even a little bit. It is very $$$ as for the phone case and 2 mounts It was over 100$ but I think its worth it. I hate having shit in my pockets while riding and love it for GPS and put it into car mode so I can easily control music and GPS. 10/10 quality product. Ever the case is usable on the s8+ wireless charger and is a very nice case.
