Thanks Sam for the pics! Where the clutch cable bends to the left on its way to the lever just in front of the handle bars. That cable rests on that metal ring and is chafing it as I move handle bars left and right.
looks like yours is set up like mine so that’s good. Dealer looked at it before I left and had no answers. They put electrical tape around cable and told me to keep an eye on it.
They said they would inform Yamaha to see if there was something to do.I’ve heard nothing.
More pics of different bikes could help to verify. When I get back I’ll see is I can adjust cables not to rest against that ring.

I've heard about this problem previously. The reason for the chafing was there was too little slack in the cables above the guides, the solution was to pull up on the cables as there is sufficient slack overall, it just has to be readjusted. I checked today and find no chafing and no tightness in the cables. So might be worth a tug or two and see if you can relieve some of the tightness.
